MGconnect Bo-fit
The companies in Mönchengladbach have been complaining for years about the declining interest on the part of secondary school leavers in vocational training and apprenticeships. The consequences: Young people in MG are not familiar with many exciting training and career opportunities, which are therefore in short supply, or they terminate their training courses prematurely because of insufficient knowledge.
In 2006, the WFMG, together with school administrators and the school inspectorate, therefore launched the MGconnect project, an interface (students-teachers-managers) project that has been initiating and supporting a large number of company and school projects in recent years.
In 2010, the MGconnect project was merged with the non-profit MGconnect foundation with the support of the publicly funded JOBSTARTER education structure programme and several companies from Mönchengladbach. This economic initiative is a reaction on the part of the city to social developments such as the shortage of specialists and the ageing of our society. The non-profit MGconnect foundation carries out projects at the interface of school and business, particularly in the area of career guidance.
