Seestadt mg+
The Swedish company Catella is developing the 14-hectare site of City Ost into a completely new district named Seestadt mg+. The name says it all: A lake will form the heart and the distinguishing feature of the quarter and lend this urban location a special ambience for living, working, relaxing, sports, culture and socialising. The body of water, which is also open to the public, will be laid out along the lines of the Gladbach brook, and the surrounding green spaces will be linked up. The result is an urban landscape with its very own identity and an attractive combination of nature and urban flair in the very heart of the city.
Up to 2,000 attractive and affordable residential units for all needs as well as space for various commercial uses, and catering and leisure facilities are being built in the Seestadt mg+. Social infrastructures, such as day-care centres for children, complement the offerings.
Catella pursues innovative paths in its search for the best and most sustainable solution for the new quarter. 21 renowned architecture firms were invited to attend a creative workshop and spontaneously develop designs based on different themes.
